Ms. Adebowale was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, she is seeking a degree in Chemistry. She is working as a tutor at the Chemistry Resource Center, in a new tutoring center hosted at North Hall, and for DEAP. Ms. Adebowale is also a part of Women in Science and the African Student Association. After graduating from IUPUI, she hopes to attend medical school to become a doctor.
Ms. Echegaray was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, she is seeking a degree in Informatics with a specialization in Education. She is working as a tutor at the MAC in the M-118 level, finite mathematics, and B-Level, primarily tutoring college level algebra. Ms. Echegaray is also a part of the Diversity Research Scholar Program (DSRP), a LiFT Scholar Mentor, an iDEW Teaching Assistant, the ALD/PES Honor Society Webmaster, the Women in Tech Webmaster, a STARS Student Ambassador, and an OTEAM Leader. After graduation, she would like to open her own business and teach kids coding languages at young ages or work for the state government's technology department.
Ms. Fagnon was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, she is seeking a BS degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish. She is a tutor for the North Hall tutoring center as well as the DEAP center. Ms. Fagnon is also doing an internship as a part of the LHSI program, and is a member of IUPUI's Biology Club. When she graduates, she hopes to use her Biology degree to go attend a medical school.
Mr. Makanjuola was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, he is seeking a BS degree in Biology with a minor in Africana Studies. He is currently a math tutor at the Math Assistance Center (MAC). He is tutoring at the B-Level, which support classes focusing on college-level algebra. Mr. Makanjuola is also a member of the African Student Association, Norman Brown Diversity and Leadership Scholars Program, Biology Club, Olaniyan Scholars Program, Student Soccer Association, ALD/PES, National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He also serves as secretary of the Chemistry Club. When he graduates, he hopes to study at medical school.
Biomedical Engineering, 2020
Ms. Ochoa was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, she is seeking a dual BS/MS degree in Biomedical Engineering, focusing on instrumentation and neural engineering with minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. She is currently a math tutor at the Math Assistance Center (MAC) at the C1-Level, which support the first calculus courses. She also tutors calculus at North Hall, and math, science, English, and Spanish with Upward Bound. Ms. Ochoa is also a research assistant for IUSM Dept Emergency Medicine. She was also at the 2018 Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM, the IUURC Top 3 Best Undergraduate IUPUI Poster, the SACNAS Conference Poster Presenter Invitation, and presented at LSCME. She was a part of the 2018 DiVERGE Program at The Scripps Research Institute, is secretary for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and treasurer for the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science. When she graduates, Ms. Ochoa hopes to get her Masters and PhD in BME, work in industry, or go into research for academia as a professor exploring drug and substance abuse effects or developing solutions to reverse the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
Biology and Neuroscience, 2018
Mr. Olafusi was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, he is seeking a BS degree in Biology as well as Neuroscience with a minor in Chemistry. He is working as a mentor for Biology K101 at the North Hall tutoring center. Mr. Olafusi is also the treasurer of Chemistry Club, Director of Saturdays of Service for IUPUI Timmy Global Health, a mentor and tutor in Psychology at the Indy learning center, and a community service leader for the Sam H. Jones program. When he graduates, he plans on working on a Master's program with IU Medical School for a year, then moving on to attend another medical school to pursue becoming a neurosurgeon.
Mr. Porto was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, he is seeking a BS degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Currently he is working as a PLTL mentor for the Chemistry classes C105 and C106, and tutors for LSAMP. Mr. Porto is also a part of IUPUI's Bioinformatics club. When he graduates, he will pursue his Master's degree in Bioinformatics.
Ms. Valdez was selected as an IN LSAMP L1 Scholar in 2017. Currently, she is seeking a BS degree in Biology. She is working as a tutor for LSAMP and Upward Bound. Ms. Valdez is also a 21st Century mentor. After she graduates, she is planning on applying to medical school.
