2021 Research Scholars

Erika was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is working with Dr. Paul Ardayfio at Eli Lilly.

Diamond was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is continuing research with Dr. Picard at IUPUI concerning testing and mapping genomes in certain species of insects. Ms. Benson currently attends IUPUI to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Forensic and Investigative Science. Upon graduation, she would like to work in a crime laboratory.

Bella was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She works in the lab with Dr. Randall Roper to study the onset of Osteoporosis with populations that have Down syndrome. Upon graduating, she is excited about conducting research in gene therapy for heart disease.

Samantha was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is conducting research in the lab with Dr. Christopher Lapish studying compulsive alcohol consumption. She is an aspiring game developer and translator.

Simeon was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. He is working with Dr. Qin Hu over blockchain technology as it relates to the medical industry. Upon graduating he plans to lead a software design team for any company that will directly help others.

Kelechi was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is conducting research in the lab with Dr. Christopher Lapish studying compulsive alcohol consumption. Kelechi is student at IUPUI pursuing a Bachelor in Biology and a minor in neuroscience. She is involved on campus as the Vice President of Service of Circle K International and an Honors Peer Mentor Leader for the Honors Peer Mentor Program.

Daevon was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. He is working with Dr. Susan Walsh to face recognition in the Meshmonk program. He is apart of the Norman Brown Diversity program at IUPUI as well as a 21st century Scholar.

Angelica was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is working with Dr. Chien-Chi Lin.

Andrea was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is working with Dr. Nathan Alves to detect different factors that impact blood clot formation and digestion. She is currently a sophomore at IUPUI pursuing a Biology BA undergraduate degree and a minor in Psychology.

Austin was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. He is working with Dr. Andres Tovar to test the strength of 3D printing compared to some of the strongest materials.

Attending Indiana University - Purdue University, Mr. Rodrigo Santillan Rodriguez is majoring in Biology with goals to obtain a Lab Technologist position in Indianapolis. As an LSAMP Scholar, he is doing research in Dr. Nathan J. Alves' lab in Emergency Medicine

Jeremy was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. He is working with Dr. Lauren Christopher. He is currently a Freshman at IUPUI pursuing an engineering degree with an economics minor.

Brendon was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. He is working with Dr. Andres Tovar to test the strength of 3D printing compared to some of the strongest materials.

Vanessa was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2021. She is working with Dr. Lindsey Turnbell on the HALT malaria initiative (Highland Areas Low Transmission) which focuses on the elimination of malaria in low-transmission areas in the western highlands of Kenya, Africa.
