2020 Research Scholars
Kalista
Ballard
Kalista was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. She is currently pursing a BS in Computer Information Technology while minoring in Spanish. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue work as a front-end web designer with a specialty in freelancing to provide websites for start-up companies.Ballard expresses, "I wanted to program websites, but I also wanted to be able to express myself creatively."
Diamond
Benson
Diamond was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. She is working with Dr. Picard at IUPUI concerning testing and mapping genomes in certain species of insects. Ms. Benson currently attends IUPUI to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Forensic and Investigative Science. Upon graduation, she would like to work in a crime laboratory.
Ricardo
Goitia
Ricardo was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. He is seeking a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering-Mechatronics. Starting Fall 2020, Mr. Goitia will be the new Vice President of The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Chapter at IUPUI (SHPE). He is thankful to be a part of the IN LSAMP team where he was given the opportunity to work under Dr. Dalir in the Advanced Composite Structures Engineering Lab, or ACSEL. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a career as a Robotics Engineer and possibly further his education by obtaining a Master's degree.
LaPam-Ela
Long
LaPam-Ela was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. Currently, she attends IUPUI and is seeking a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. She is working alongside Dr. Porter at IUPUI to research a connection between her interest for biomedical engineering and medicine. Upon graduation, she plans to pursuing medical school to become a reconstructive surgeon.
Chiko
Nwachukwu
Chiko was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. He is currently attending IUPUI with a major in Informatics with plans to specify in cyber security. He believes that technology is one of the best tools to help people in need and he plans to use his experiences to work with technology to help low income families.
Giannina
Ramirez
Ramirez was selected as an IN LSAMP Research Scholar in Fall 2020. Upon graduation, she plans to find solutions to growing environmental issues and I feel research is the best way.

Steinhardt
Rai was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. They are working with Dr. Miled. They are currently attending IUPUI to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics and Psychology. Afterwards, they plan on doing whatever they can to make the world a better place by focusing on accessibility through technology.
Elysa
Thompson
Thompson was selected as an IN LSAMP Summer Research Scholar in 2020. The summer was spent working with Dr. Tovar at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology researching computational fluid dynamics for model-based tissue engineering design using finite element analysis (FEA). Ms. Thompson is an Energy Engineer major whose interests are renewable technology, specifically offshore wind energy. As a Diversity Research Scholar Program (DSRP) recipient, Ms. Thompson has been involved with research from the start of her academic career at IUPUI. As a Norman Brown scholar, Ms. Thompson knows the importance of representation in the STEM field and plans to continue her education by attending graduate school and earning an interdisciplinary degree in environmental and civil engineering. Her passion for helping to build a greener future has propelled her to the path of engineering. She wants to take part of the research, testing, and optimization of the technology that will promote a more sustainable tomorrow. After graduate school, she then plans to work in the research and design of renewable energy.

Verges-Alicea
Verges-Alicea was selected as an IN LSAMP Research Scholar in Fall 2020. She is from Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Currently pursing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering with two minors: Math and Computer Science. Along with many accomplishments she is the secretary for the IUPUI SHPE chapter. She is interested in pursuing a master degree in Robotics and work as a Robotics Engineer in the future.
