Participate in 2020 STEM Diversity and Inclusion Video Exhibition Challenge: Vote Today!

Muncie, Indiana, August 11, 2020 — Dr. Patti Lang, Co-PI and Campus Director of the Indiana STEM LSAMP (IN LSAMP) at Ball State University (BSU), will be featured in Round Three People’s Choice Voting Round of the STEM Diversity and Inclusion Video Exhibition Challenge!  The exhibition is hosted by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Voting is held online August 17 – 24, 2020.

Vote Today! The presentation, “Scientific Journal or Graphic Novel? A Student-Production Featuring LSAMP Research,” is featured August 17 – 24, 2020.

The video looks at how IN LSAMP students at BSU collaborated with graphic art management students to showcase their research in a novel fashion. The project was funded by IN STEM LSAMP, NSF-HRD, 1618-408 and Ball State University Sponsored Projects Administration.

STEM Diversity and Inclusion Video Exhibition Challenge is an NSF initiative with a mission to enhance U.S. leadership in STEM by facilitating partnerships, NSF INCLUDES is sponsoring to the NSF STEM DIVE (Diversity and Inclusion Video Exhibition) Challenge. Video entries are used to exhibit how grantees have encouraged and supported diversity and inclusion in STEM preK-12, higher, and informal education. This challenge is designed to attract broader interest in STEM and to inform the greater community about best practices and effective strategies for increasing diversity and inclusion, partnership and networking strategies, and dissemination approaches for growing the STEM workforce.

The product of the partnership between the two Ball State student groups, their faculty advisors, and the Ball State video production team, broke the traditional confines of a scholarly journal and yielded a 133-page explanation of the students’ research, their biographies, and a description of the Indiana LSAMP program—not to mention a plot, a team of superheroes called The Elements, a villain named Dr. Hazard, and a dramatic ending!  Hopefully, the video will inspire other LSAMP leaders to connect with creative folks at their institutions in a way that will promote their programs and creativity and collaboration.

Assessment Institute in Indianapolis

The Assessment Institute in Indianapolis is the nation's oldest and largest event focused exclusively on outcomes assessment in higher education. We anticipate that some 1000 educators from virtually every state and several other countries will take part in the 2018 Institute.

The Assessment Institute in Indianapolis is designed to provide opportunities for (1) individuals and campus teams new to outcomes assessment to acquire fundamental knowledge about the field, (2) individuals who have worked as leaders in outcomes assessment to share and extend their knowledge and skills, and (3) those interested in outcomes assessment at any level to establish networks that serve as sources of support and expertise beyond the dates of the Institute.
